The Citali group is maD. up of 15 very cheerful and hard-working women who decided to give their group a name (Citali) which, in their Nahuatl dialect means 'Star'.

Claudia is one of this group's members. She is 35 years old, studied up to high school level, and is married to Carlos who is an agricultural worker. They have six children: 17-year-old Flor del Rio, 15-year-old David (both of whom are in senior high school), 13-year-old Carla (who is in high school), 11-year-old Luz del Carmen and Maria Dolores (who are in elementary school) and 5-year-old Pedro who is in pre-school. Claudia tells us that she started her business selling groceries three years ago because she wanted to proviD. for her children and the only inheritance she can give them is to send them to school and give them a good education. For this reason, she works very hard. She also wants to help her husband with their household expenses.

Claudia opens her grocery store very early in the morning and waits for her customers to arrive. She has all her products out and displayed on shelves so that her customers can see them. She enjoys serving her customers.

Claudia needs this loan to buy powdered soap, bath soap, detergents, beans, rice, corn, canned food, soft drinks, juice, candies, oil and bread to sell in her business.

Claudia hopes that, with this investment, her business will thrive and she will be able to increase her business even further. She is very happy with the foundation and sends them a message in her mother tongue (Nahuatl). "Tlaxokamati Fundación Realidad" (Thank you Fundación Realidad).

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
