A loan of $350 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Bidii Group's story

Receive greetings from Bidii Group in Western Kenya! Elizabeth is the facilitator of the Bidii group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Elizabeth is a mother of three children. She joined One Acre Fund in order to have additional maize profits to send her children to school and access fertilizer and hybrid seeds. In the recent 2011 season, Elizabeth had a very good maize yield harvesting 14 bags on 1/2 an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Elizabeth was only able to harvest five bags of maize on 1/2 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Elizabeth and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from her maize sales, Elizabeth will educate her children and ensure food security.

In 2012, the members of Bidii group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

She is pictured with her group members in the photograph shown above.
