F. lives in the city of Cochabamba. He’s married and has three children. He’s worked at a marble quarry for over 22 years but the salary he earns is very low, it’s barely enough to support his family. His wife earns additional family income selling milk from the four cows she owns; she sells the milk around the neighborhood.

F. has been planning to build a kitchen at home for many years now but has been unable to save up enough to do so and could not find financing for the construction. Now, through CIDRE and thanks to resources that KIVA channels, he has been granted a loan to build the kitchen for his house. He is very anxious to get started building it with his own hands and is grateful to KIVA for this financial support.

CIDRE is a Bolivian microfinance institution with a strong social commitment to the community. It works to provide quality financial services to rural and peri-urban borrowers, focusing primarily on agricultural loans for dairy farmers and micro-enterprises. CIDRE targets segments of the population that have not traditionally had access to credit, and invests in much-needed community development projects. It is currently working with coca farmers in the Chapare region to replace coca with less controversial crops. Get more involved by joining the Friends of CIDRE lending team.
