A loan of $1,125 helped to buy plastic bottles and to pay her children's school costs.

Paulina's story

Paulina, 52, is a single mother of three children. They live together in her own house located in the community of Palmapampa. Paulina is her home’s sole source of support. She’s been recycling disposables for the last year. She rises very early in the morning to go looking house to house and store to store; her neighbors are aware of Paulina’s work and they are nice enough to collect their bottles and give them to her. Once she has a good amount of bottles she sells them to recycling firms at a good price. What she enjoys the most about her work is that she’s able to cover household expenses thanks to recycling and considers the most difficult part of it having to walk all day collecting. In time, Paulina plans to buy bottles in various locations at a lower price to then resell them at a better price to cover household expenses.

This will be loan #10 with MFP. She is very happy with the support they give her and to be able to continue toward her objective of continuing to work. She is very well-liked in her communal bank because she’s responsible with her payments.

She will use the 3000 new soles to buy discarded bottles at an affordable price to then resell at a higher price and with the remainder she’ll be able to cover her children’s school costs.
