A loan of $700 helped to buy supplies for the dairy products and the chicharrones.

Claudia Carolina's story

Claudia, age 30, lives in the Santa Lucía village in the Cortes department. She lives with her life partner of eight years, Alan. They have two children, ages one and six. The oldest child goes to school. Both adults work selling dairy products in order to support the family.

The pair sells dairy products and “chicharrones” (fried pork rinds) in an itinerant manner. She offers a wide variety of dairy products to her customers. Cheese, fresh white cheese, curds, and butter are among the products that they sell. They work every day out of financial necessity. They hope that with their efforts they will be able to get their children ahead. They also hope to give them a better life and an excellent education.

With her first loan Claudia managed to increase her customers, and some of them started to buy from her exclusively. With the current loan for 13,000 lempiras she will buy supplies for the dairy products and the chicharrones in order to be able to expand her inventory.

Their work is difficult without having their own car. However, the pair will devote themselves to working a lot in order to get ahead. In the very near future they hope to have a fixed location where they can sell their products.
