A loan of $1,125 helped to buy a plot of land on which to grow cacao.

Pelayo's story

Pelayo is 40 years old and lives with Zenayda who is 39. The couple have three children and live together in their own home which is located in the community of Jose Olaya, Pangoa. When Palayo started out farming, growing and selling cacao and coffee, things didn't go so well. However, he persevered and continued in this line of work. He currently owns a good quantity of cacao and coffee plantations. This enables him to meet the demands of his recurring customers in a timely and efficient manner. He therefore feels very happy with what he does. Pelayo's sales have increased but the price he receives for his produce has not risen so his profit margin remains stable. He generally works alongside his wife but, at harvest time, he hires laborers to help his crop picking go more smoothly.

This will be Pelayo's first loan from MFP and he pledges to make his repayments on time. He would like to use his 3,000 soles to acquire a new plot of farmland where he can grow more cacao plants.
