A loan of $175 helped to buy supplies to prepare food.

Andrea's story

Adrea, age 55, lives in a poor area of the city of Choloma. She is single because she is a widow, and she lives with her only child.

Her business activity is making food like “baleadas” (the basic baleada is a thick flour tortilla folded in half containing refried beans and grated cheese with a white sauce), ice cream (popsicles), and sweets.

She previously had a grocery store where she sold basic needs products (rice, beans, sugar, shortening, soft drinks, and home hygiene products). That business was closed because Andrea used all of the income to help get medicine for her mother who was very ill.

She has currently started another business selling prepared food at her house. She has requested a loan, which she plans to use to get the supplies needed to prepare food. She plans to use her income to reestablish her grocery store. She has the experience in the business, and she is optimistic that she will succeed.
