A loan of $1,125 helped to buy pea seeds and three sacks of manure.

Olinda's story

Olinda is a self-sacrificing mother of two children who are 14 and 1 year old. She lives with Walter, her partner of 16 years. Olinda and her family live in her aunt’s house in the hamlet of Huaylahuichan. Her main activity is farming with her husband on parcels they own and some that they lease. They grow peas, potatoes and corn. She also raises guinea pigs that she sells for 15 and 18 soles.

Olinda is focused on her home. While Walter is in the fields she takes care of the children and prepares the meals. Olinda relates that sometimes with the corn crops she only recuperates her investment. “This is due to the freezes and illnesses and not knowing how to apply insecticides correctly,” she adds.

In time, she sees herself and her family living in the city of Lima since Kevin, her oldest son, will finish secondary school and she hopes to enroll him in an academy so that he’ll have the opportunity to study a university career or whatever he chooses.

This will be Olinda’s 13th MFP loan. She needs your help to make her projects a reality. She’s been working with the communal bank for some time and she mentions that she feels good and comfortable with her fellow members. The money from the loan will be used to buy pea seeds and three sacks of manure which adds up to 1500 soles per parcel and Olinda plans to plant on two parcels.
