A loan of $1,050 helped a member to source farming inputs such as seeds and fertilizer at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Hope W.g Group's story

Greetings from Hope Women's Group in Western Kenya! Beatrice is the facilitator of the Hope Women's Group. This group joined One Acre Fund in 2010 and is now re-enrolling for a 3rd planting season.

Beatrice takes care of two children at home with her husband. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Beatrice had an excellent maize yield harvesting 25 bags on 1 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Beatrice was only able to harvest 2 bags of maize on 1 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Beatrice and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Beatrice will invest in key assets such as livestock and pay for major expenses such as school fees.

In 2012, the members of Hope Women's Group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

In this group: Beatrice, Annah, Eunice, Christine, Francisca, Pamela, Mary, Veronica, Rosemary
