A loan of $600 helped a member to source farming inputs such as seeds and fertilizer at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Subira Group's story

Greetings from Subira Group in Western Kenya! Ridah is the facilitator of the Subira group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Ridah takes care of 10 children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Ridah had a very good maize yield harvesting 14 bags on 1.5 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Ridah was only able to harvest one bag of maize on one acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Pamela and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from her maize sales, Ridah will educate her children, ensure food security and invest in raising livestock.

In 2012, the members of Subira group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

In this group: Ridah, Elizabeth, Charles, Penina, Vaustina, Rispa
