A loan of $750 helped to buy sacks of compost.

Lida's story

Lida, 26, is a single mother with two children, ages 9 and 1. After separating from her children's father, she lives alone with her kids in their own home. In spite of that, she isn't discouraged, and works as a farmer because that is what she likes to do and what she knows how to do well. This young mother plants plantains, coffee, avocados, yucca, etc. Lida shows confidence when it comes to taking care of her crops. She says "before our biggest difficulty was staff, not having the support of friends or family, but I had to take out loans to hire laborers." She also mentions that weeds destroyed a lot of her plantings, a situation that she has learned to manage through hard work.

When her two children grow up, she hopes to have enough money for a well-stocked store and to also continue farming. This will be her 6th loan with MFP. She needs a lot of help to achieve her goals. Lida loves to work with her village bank because they are people who are always around her and share the same ideals. With the loan money, Lida will be able to buy manure for her coffee and plantain crops, which costs 120 soles per bag.
