A loan of $1,125 helped to buy more textbooks to sell in his bookstore.

Charles's story

Charles is 41 years old and lives in the town of Kumi in the Mbale region of Uganda. He is married and has three children who are all currently in school. For the past seven years, Charles has been working hard to manage his bookstore, which sells all types of textbooks and stationary products.

To help expand his business, Charles has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more textbooks and will help Charles to generate greater profits as well as buy a printer for the store. Charles hopes that in the future he will be able to finish building his house and start another stationary store.

Charles is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Charles who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown too large for micro-loans.
