Aidah's story

Aidah is 39 years old and lives in the town of Tororo, in the Mbale region of Uganda. She is married and has three children with two of them currently in school. For the past eleven years, Aidah has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells food and home supplies to local customers.

To help expand her business, Aidah has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more posho [maize flour], beans and canned soups, and will help Aidah to generate greater profits and improve the quality of life for her family. Aidah hopes that in the future she will be able to educate her children.

Aidah is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small business owners like Aidah who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
