María Dolores's story

María is a member of the “10 de Agosto” communal bank. She lives in Santa Ana Parish (Cuenca). This parish is cold climate. It has a natural beauty and from its center one can admire a large part of the city of Cuenca. Its residents raise livestock and farm; many work at various jobs in the city.

María is 41 years old and separated from her husband but has three children who are 21, 19 and 16 years of age. He oldest child has a disability and is in her care; the next two children both work. She owns the house they live in.

María is a housewife and since she spends her time at home she raises pigs, guinea pigs and chickens and plants vegetables to sell. She also cares for her little nephews.

She’s been in the communal bank for four years and will use her new loan to buy chicks and animal feed. Her goal is to have more chickens to sell.

She appears in the photo with one of her nephews.
