A loan of $2,050 helped a member to buy livestock.

Cordillera De Los Andes Group's story

The "Cordillera de los Andes" communal association will begin its first loan cycle with the Pro Mujer institution, through the Panamericana office. It is made up of seven members, and is run by a board, of which Cristina is the president.

The businesses that the members of communal association carry on are varied, and include: neighborhood store, buying and selling livestock, weaving shawls, lamb butchering, and making flower baskets. Cristina says this is the first time she has worked with Pro Mujer, and that she joined the institution at the invitation of the facilitator in the area.

Currently she has a business buying and selling livestock, that she has been doing for many years. The loan she will take out is for increasing her capital, by buying livestock that she will acquire at fairs in the rural area, and later sell in her community. This work will allow her to generate resources to support her family, as she is married and has eleven children.
