Lea is a widow living in Sumalig Tambulig Zamboanga del Sur. Lea is 33 years old and she has eight kids, all of whom live with her.
Lea operates a sari-sari (variety) store. She has been in this business for more than five years. Each month she earns 10,000 Philippines pesos (PHP). She is doing this kind of business because it is in very high demand in her village. She requests a loan in the amount of PHP 20,000 to buy supplementary goods to sell in her sari-sari store. Lea is doing this to support her eight kids, especially in their studies.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
