A loan of $350 helped to purchase fabrics, threads, needles, etc.

María Beljica's story

Señora María is a member of the communal bank Mujeres con Decisión (Decisive Women). She lives in the middle of the city of Cuenca, a city which is surrounded by 4 rivers, giving it the name of Santa Ana of the Four Rivers. Cuenca has many natural and cultural riches; its people are friendly and warm-hearted. They maintain the culture and traditions of their people.

María is 34 years old. She’s a single mother of 3 children who are 4 and 2 years old, and one baby who is 4 months. She does not have her own home, so she rents.

Doña María makes embroidery, an activity which she learned while working since she was 15 years old. She works in her home from Monday to Saturday, but only upon request.

This is her fourth loan from the communal bank, and she will be investing it in the purchase of fabrics, threads, needles, etc.

Her goal is to expand her workshop in order to hire workers and have a place to sell her products.
