A loan of $650 helped a member to source farming inputs such as seeds and fertilizer at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Mwangaza Shg Group's story

Greetings from Mwangaza SHG Group in Western Kenya! Pamela is the facilitator of the Mwangaza SHG group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Everlyne takes care of eight children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough to feed her family and have additional maize profits to educate her children. In the recent 2011 season, Everlyne had a very good maize yield, harvesting 7 bags on 1/2 an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Everlyne was only able to harvest 3 bags of maize on 1/2 an acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Everlyne and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Everlyne will educate her children and invest in poultry rearing.

In 2012, the members of Mwangaza SHG group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

Everlyne is pictured with her group members in the photograph with their Field Officer on the far left in the blue shirt.
