Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,200 helped to buy a motorbike for his children to travel to work.

Sern's story

Sern, 60 years old, is a village leader and a farmer earning $1 per day. His wife stays home. They have two children who both work earning $9 per day in total. Every month he has to spend $25 on food, $5 on electricity, $5 on transportation and $10 on other expenses. He would like to request a loan of $1200 to buy a motorbike for his children to travel to work. Most of the family expenses are paid for by his children. He wants his daughter to sell groceries at home so that she does not need to travel far from home to work.
