A loan of $1,125 helped to sow three manzanas (just over 5 acres) with potatoes.

Luis Manuel's story

Luis is a young man of 24 who is from the city of Estelí. He is married and works as a farmer, growing potatoes. He started growing crops five years ago in a community called La Tejera, which is located on the outskirts of Estelí. Back then, he was studying for a degree in agricultural engineering but he had to stop because he didn't have enough money to finish his course. However, he has a desire to improve himself and so he carried on and later managed to study accountancy. He worked as a collector and then started working in the field of accountancy where he is a junior accountant. Now, in addition to working as a junior accountant, he also grows potatoes in La Tejera. He is requesting this loan because he would like to sow 3 manzanas of land (one manzana = 1.68 acres) with potatoes. He would like his farming to be very profitable and productive and provide him with the income he needs to buy his own plot of farmland, produce his own seed instead of buying it, and become a prosperous farmer who is capable of being self-sustaining and improving his family's quality of life.
