A loan of $425 helped to buy bags of fertilizer.

Alejandrina's story

Alejandrina is 40. She has been married to Alberto for 10 years. Together they have 6 children, 5 of whom live with them. This family lives in their own home and are committed to hard work and caring for one another. Agriculture has provided, and always will provide, their sustenance. Alejandrina learned this work from her parents and is now teaching her children. Even at their young ages, they help work in the fields. They have four cows, which they raise for sale or for butchering. She harvested thirty bags of potatoes in the last harvest, and was able to sell them at a satisfactory price. "With luck we make good money, but there are times when the worms or the frost ruin the crop", Alejandrina says, identifying their main problems. She adds that they are often only able to sow a little due to lack of funds. So, with this investment she will stock up on seeds and fertilizers, and pay for labour. Alejandrina plans to sow more plots of land and buy more animals in the future. She hopes that, even if she can't leave her children money, she will at least be able to leave her children animals and land to cultivate. This is the eighth time that she has worked with her communal bank and MFP. She thinks that she will achieve her goals bit by bit if she keeps her attitude.

Alejandrina will use this loan to purchase bags of fertilizer for some of her plots of land, for both potato and pea crops.
