A loan of $3,000 helped a member to purchase wool.

Mariposas De Oro Group's story

The “MARIPOSAS DE ORO” (Golden Butterflies) Communal bank will begin its third loan cycle with Pro Mujer in connection with its Panamerica regional office. The group is composed of eight members and is directed by a board for which señora Julia is the treasurer. The businesses which members of the communal bank carry out include making handicrafts, selling corn, neighborhood shops, and the sale of fruit.

Señora Julia states that for a year and a half she worked with Pro Mujer helping to promote the institution in the area. Currently she has a business selling handicrafts that has operated for three years.

The loan she is applying for will be used to purchase wool taken from the brow and rear of sheep which will be made into products and delivered to customers’ homes. This work allows her to generate income for supporting her family since she is married and has six children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer she said she likes the meetings, the training, and the counseling.
