Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $4,000 helped a member to buy more clothes and shoes to sell.

Maitiro Group's story

Ritha is a 48-year-old widow who lives in Shurugwi with her six children aged 29, 27, 26, 23, 19 and 10. Only two of her children are still in school. She operates in the local market where she buys and sells shoes, blankets and clothes.

She lacks funds to continue her business. She has a loan of $400.00 which she used to buy more clothes and shoes to sell. If her business goes well, she is looking forward to a have a clothing shop in Chachacha (a shopping centre in Shurugwi) and also will be in a position to send her four grand children to school.
