A loan of $550 helped to purchase more cans of paint.

James's story

James is 31 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kampala region of Uganda. He is married and has three children with two of them currently in school. For the past seven years, James has been working hard to manage his small business, which sells paint and does painting jobs in town.

To help expand his business, James has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more cans of paint and will help James to generate greater profits and provide for his family's medical needs. James hopes that in the future he will be able to transition into wholesale business.

James is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like James who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for micro-loans.
