Ayudanos Señor 4 & 5 Group's story

Cita is one of the members of the "Ayúdanos Señor 4 & 5" (Help Us Lord 4 & 5) Group, which is located in the tourist city of L. Romana, in one of the poorest communities, surrounded by sugar cane fields. These communities are also called batey and most of their inhabitants are Haitian immigrants who came to the Dominican Republic with the aim of improving their quality of life.

Cita is very excited to be receiving her third loan from Esperanza Internacional. When the program arrived in her community, she decided to join the group with the aim of improving her business which was lacking capital. She runs a fruit, vegetable and chicken stall from her small home which she shares with her partner, as some of her family and children live in Haiti.

Cita plans to invest this loan in buying vegetables, several 100lb lots of chicken and fruit. She sells her products to her neightors as 'bateyes' (sugar worker towns) are isolated communities which are far from the city. Cita would like to save her profits as her future plans are to own her own home and to have a better business.

In this group: Cita, Gaspar, Juliana, Fommelie, Leonidas, Denisse, Yiliana*, Johanna, Doris, Romina
