A loan of $800 helped to buy seeds and farm supplies.

Walter Ufredo's story

Walter Ufredo, 38, is single and has one son. He lives his parents and his son who is 3 years old in Ventanas Canton, Los Ríos Province.

The “San Nicolás” communal bank is located in Recinto San Nicolás, Puerto Pechiche Parish belonging to Pueblo Viejo Canton. The members of this communal bank are short cycle corn farmers.

Walter Ufredo grows corn, rice and beans. His purchases and sales take place in San Jacinto. He’s asking for the loan to invest in farming. He will buy seeds and farm supplies like urea, Matamonte brand herbicide, fertilizer and weed killer to keep his crops in good condition and sell them at good prices. The loan will be very useful because he’ll be able to buy cocoa bean seeds and provide maintenance to his fields and his crops.

The challenges he faces are very frequent. They are: competition, pests and crop diseases. His dream for the next five years is to be able to continue working to improve his economic stability and to buy more hectares of land. In his free time he enjoys playing Indor soccer and cockfights.
