A loan of $800 helped to buy seeds and farm supplies.

Nestor Alberto's story

Nestor Alberto, 39, is living in a common law relationship and has four children. He lives with his wife and children who are 13, 12, 5 and 3 years old in Ventanas Canton, Los Ríos Province.

The “San Nicolás” communal bank is located in Recinto San Nicolás, Puerto Pechiche Parish belonging to Pueblo Viejo Canton. The members of this communal bank are short cycle corn farmers.

Nestor grows corn, rice and beans. His purchases and sales take place in San Jacinto. He’s asking for the loan to invest in farming. He will buy seeds and farm supplies like urea, Matamonte brand herbicide, fertilizer and weed killer to keep his crops in good condition and sell them at good prices. The loan will be very useful because he will buy farm supplies problem free because he’ll have the money.

The challenges he faces are very frequent. They are: competition, pests and crop diseases. His dream for the next five years is to be debt free in order to request another, larger loan. In his free time he enjoys playing ball and fishing.
