Maribel Alexandra's story

Maribel Alexandra is 34 years old and is in a common-law marriage. She lives with her husband and their two children, ages 7 and 5, in the Ventanas canton in the province of Ríos. The communal bank San Nicolas is located in the San Nicolás precinct and the Puerto Pechiche parish in the canton of Pueblo Viejo. The members of this bank work in agriculture and plant short cycle crops such as corn.

Maribel works in agriculture and grows corn, rice, and beans. She does her buying and selling in San Jacinto. She is requesting a loan to buy seeds and agricultural supplies such as urea, Matamonte [an herbicide], fertilizers, and weedkillers to keep her crops in good condition and thus, sell them for a good price. The loan will be a great help to her as she will be able to buy the agricultural supplies without any problems. The challenges that she frequently faces are: competition, insects, and crop diseases. Her dream for the next 5 years is to not have any debt and to be able to buy a house, where she can live comfortably, and a car to transport her products. In her free time, she likes to play ball, sew and try to spend a lot of time with her children.
