Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $800 helped to buy seeds and farm supplies.

Jairon Aurelio's story

Jairon Aurelio, 32, is in a common law relationship and has two children. He lives with his wife and children who are 7 and 4 years of age in Ventanas Canton, Los Ríos Province.

The “San Nicolás” communal bank is located in Recinto San Nicolás, Puerto Pechiche Parish that belongs to Pueblo Viejo Canton. The members of this communal bank are short cycle corn farmers.

Jairon farms corn, rice and beans. His purchases and sales take place in San Jacinto. He’s asking for the loan to buy seeds and farm supplies like urea, Matamonte brand herbicide, fertilizer and weed poison to keep his crops in good condition.

The loan will be of much help to change and have good income produced for his family’s and his business’ wellbeing.

The challenges he faces are frequent: competition and pests. His dream is to be able to improve his economic state to help his children finish their schooling. In his free time he enjoys riding his motorcycle and to do auto mechanics.
