Mozambique
Boane, Maputo, Mozambique / Personal Housing Expenses

A loan of $400 helped to buy construction materials (sand, cement, stone, cinder blocks, etc.) to continue work on her house.

Luisa's story

Luisa was born in the district of Boane, in the province of Maputo in southern Mozambique. She is married and the mother of four children, all of whom go to school. She went to school through fifth grade but had to drop out because of financial difficulties. She lives with her family in a home they own, and isn't financially responsible for anyone else.

She's never left Boane. She's been farming for more than 20 years and earns about 3,000 meticals a month. She uses her salary for household expenses and is able to save a small amount in her bank account (BIM). She has never had loans from other banks. She learned about Hluvuku from a friend who is also clients of the institution. This is her fourth loan with Hluvuku, in the amount of 10,000 meticals, which she will use to buy construction materials (sand, cement, stone, cinder blocks, etc.) to continue work on her house. Her first loans, in the amounts of 3,500, 8,000, and 9,000 meticals, were all used on the house. She is committed to paying off this loan without any problems and in the future intends to ask for further loans from Hluvuku to finish her house.
