A loan of $875 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Wazekese Y/g Group's story

Greetings from Wazekese Youth Group in Western Kenya! It's headed by David as its facilitator. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

David is a father of four children. He joined One Acre Fund in order to have additional maize profits and access fertilizer and hybrid seeds. In the recent 2011 season, David had an excellent maize yield harvesting 14 bags on 1 acre of land. Before joining One Ace Fund, David was only able to harvest 9 bags of maize on 1 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to David and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, David will save for future use and educate his children.

In 2012, the members of Wazekeze Youth group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

David is pictured with his group members in the photograph above, with their Field Officer Maxwell in Red and Black at the left side.
