A loan of $350 helped to buy fabric and animal feed.

Mercedes Dolores's story

Dolores is a member of the “Libertad en Progreso” communal bank. She lives in a community belonging to Victoria del Portete (Cuenca) Parish. This is a cold climate place apt for raising livestock on its wide plains. Its residents are kind, warm and keep the customs and traditions of their peoples. Dolores is 45 years old, married and has 7 children. Two of her daughters are married and independent, three work and help out economically. Her two youngest children go to the local elementary school. Her husband’s a tailor by profession and has a small workshop. They own the house they live in. Dolores does the household chores, takes care of her family but since she spends most of the time at home she also raises animals like guinea pigs, chickens, sheep and cows that she sells in her community or in the city when an economic need arises. She’s in her fourth loan with the communal bank and will use this new loan to buy fabric for her husband’s business and also feed for her animals. Her goal is to build a house for her children.
