A loan of $675 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Bidii Group's story

Greetings from Bidii Group in Western Kenya!
Jodyna is the facilitator of the Bidii Group. She is a mother of three children. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Jodyna had an excellent maize yield harvesting twelve bags on half an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Jodyna was only able to harvest five bags of maize on half an acre of land. It is typical for One Acre Fund farmers to double or triple their maize yields after joining the program.
With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Jodyna and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.
With income from maize sales, Jodyna will pay school fees for her children and buy food for the family.
In 2012, the members of Bidii Group will each plant between half and two acres of maize.
