A loan of $625 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Muyundo Shg Group's story

Greetings from Muyundo SHG Group in Western Kenya! Florence is the facilitator of the Muyundo SHG Group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Florence takes care of five children at home. She joined One Acre Fund due to the best prices and in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and insure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Florence had a very good maize yield harvesting 10 bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Florence was only able to harvest two bags of maize on one acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Florence and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With the income from maize sales, Florence will educate her children and invest in raising livestock.

In 2012, the members of Muyundo SHG Group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.
