A loan of $1,025 helped to purchase dozens of diapers, baby jackets, knitted goods, blankets, bedsheets and clothespins.

Annie Berthe's story

Annie is 39 years old, single, with two children in her care. Upon stopping her secondary education in 2000, she began selling baby clothing and supplies. Having already benefited from three loan cycles with HOPE, she runs a very profitable business that allows her to repay with no trouble and to put aside tremendous savings.

With the new loan, she will go to Kinshasa to stock up on baby supplies for newborns, such as knitted outfits, rompers, blankets and sets of bedsheets.

She sells on average 15,000 to 60,000 francs worth of goods; she has repaid [her past loans] with no problem and has set aside considerable savings.

She is a very energetic mother, taking care of her children and their schooling. For the long-term, she is in the midst of a struggle to become a wholesaler of baby supplies.
