A loan of $2,050 helped a member to purchase milk for re-sale.

Sare Sahara / Kawral Group's story

The Kawral group was formed in July 2008 just after the local credit association was founded. The group is made up of 14 women who all live in the same village. They are all sales women by trade.

Madame Mariama (sitting on the far right) is the group leader. She is 53 years old, married, has 8 children, and also has a step-daughter in her care. She sells curds in the weekly markets in the nearby towns, and has been involved in this trade for over a decade.

Her loan will enable her to purchase milk for re-sale. The profits that she generates will enable her to support her husband with the family expenses, and to put some money aside as savings.

In this group: Mariama, Ramatoulaye, Assette, Lala, Dienabou, Ramata, Hawa*, Lawratou, Aissatou, Foulaba, Ansatou Kagou, Fatoumata, Diariatou, Aminata
