A loan of $975 helped a member to source farming inputs such as seeds and fertilizer at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Bora Bidii Group's story

Greetings from the Bora Bidii Group in Western Kenya! Robai is the facilitator of Bora Bidii group. This group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Robai takes care of six children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Robai had an excellent maize yield harvesting 35 bags on two acres of land. Before joining One Ace Fund, Robai was only able to harvest 18 bags of maize on that land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Robai and her group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Robai will educate her children and ensure food security for the family.

In 2012, the members of Bora Bidii group will each plant between ½ and one acre of maize.
