Rurh is a resident of Kitale, Western Kenya, and a farmer. She is aged 51 and has been in farming for 15 years, producing and selling milk, maize, eggs, beans, sorghum and millet to the local market. She also runs a secondhand clothes business to supplement her farming income. She is married with four children, with the last two still schooling.
Ruth has made a loan request for 100,000 KES with Juhudi Kilimo to enable her to construct a modern dairy unit at 30,000 KES and buy more poultry birds at 70,000 KES to boost her poultry business. She says the loan will help boost her farming and enable her to educate her last two children. It will also improve her family's overall well being.
She laments common poultry diseases but is glad for Juhudi's intervention.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
