A loan of $675 helped to buy rice, meat, fish, and other ingredients.

Manuela Sisivel's story

In the Andrés De Vera parish, in the city of Portoviejo, capital of Manabí, which has been known for many years as the City of the Royal Tamarind Trees, the “4 de Agosto” communal bank meets every 15 days.

Here we meet Manuela. She is 45 years old. She is the single mother of two children who are 10 and 8 years old and who are attending school. She has been in the communal bank for two loan cycles. She likes it because of the assistance and because there aren’t lots of requirements for being able to receive the loans.

In order to get ahead and to help her children get ahead, she has had a restaurant for several years where she prepares and sells delicious meals. She works every day from 3:00 AM until 3:00 PM. She makes delicious breakfasts and a variety of lunches. She works along with a woman who she pays a monthly salary. Thanks to her business, she has been able to get ahead and now with the loans she has been able to improve even more.

She will use this loan to buy rice, meat, fish, and other ingredients for the preparation of her foods.

Her dream is to give her children a very good education.
