Esmeralda Bibiana's story

The members of the August 4th Communal Bank meets every 15 days in the parish of Andrés de Vera in the city of Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí. For many years, Portoviejo has been known as the City of the Royal Tamarind Trees.

Sra. Esmeralda lives in this place. She is 51 years old and currently in a common-law relationship. Esmeralda has three children from a previous relationship who are now grown and independent. Her husband is an automobile mechanic.

Esmeralda is a homemaker who earns her own income by selling clothing through catalogs and Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes, and women’s accessories). She works every day by going door-to-door. Other customers come to her house. Esmeralda extends credit for her products and collects payment at the end of each week. She has been in this business for three years and has done very well.

This loan will be used to buy perfumes, crèmes, cosmetics, trousers, blouses, and clothing in general. Esmeralda is participating in her fourth loan with the Communal Bank and enjoys being a member because the payments are easy to make. Her dream is to have a store where she can sell clothes and all of her products.
