A loan of $775 helped to purchase construction materials (iron, cement, stone, sand, cinder blocks, etc.) to continue work on his house.

Americo's story

Americo was born in the district of Chibuto, in the province of Gaza in southern Mozambique. He is married and the father of five adult children. He went to school through fifth grade but had to drop out because of financial difficulties. He lives in his own home with his family, and also supports his grandchildren, who live with him. He left Chibuto for Maputo (Boane) in search of a better life. He's had a desk job at a driving school for more than seven years and earns about 1,600 meticals a month. He uses his salary to pay for household expenses and also saves a little in a bank account. He has never had loans from other banks. He learned about Hluvuku from a friend who is also a client of the institution. This is his fourth loan, in the amount of 20,000 meticals, which he will use to purchase construction materials (iron, cement, stone, sand, cinder blocks, etc.) to continue the construction on his house. His first loans, in the amounts of 5,800, 10,000, and 15,000 meticals, were all also used for his home. He is committed to paying off this loan without any problems and in the future intends to ask for further loans from Hluvuku to finish and furnish his house.
