A loan of $300 helped a member to buy farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Neema C Group's story

Eunice is the facilitator of the Neema C group, in the Chwele district of Western Kenya. Eunice and her group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Eunice and her group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

Eunice takes care of two children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to ensure food security for her family and access fertilizer and hybrid seeds. In the 2011 season, Eunice had an excellent maize yield harvesting 16 bags on three quarters of an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, she was only able to harvest five bags of maize on that land.

With income from maize sales, Eunice will educate her children and pay back her loan.

In 2012, the members of Neema C group will each plant maize plots between ½ and one acre of land.

In the photograph above, Eunice is pictured with her group members, plus a child of one of the group members.
