A loan of $725 helped to buy bags of fertilizer.

Marcelina's story

Marcelina is 52, a widow, and has a daughter in her care. They live together in the the village of Samugari, located in the tropical forests of Ayacucho. Here she has her own house, constructed with simple materials such as adobe and tin roofing. She comes from a family whose tradition is farming, and today she is quite an expert on farming.

Faced with the loss of her beloved husband, it was very difficult time for her to get through, as on her own she had to look ahead, and work for the sake of her dear daughter. That's why she grows cacao, coffee, and trees for lumber. These products have provided her with the income necessary to maintain herself, and pay for her daughter's school expenses.

What she most likes about her work is planting her land, and she does it with great care. She has been doing this work for ten years and what she considers the hardest part is transporting her crops, since transport trucks are very scarce in that part of the region.

This will be her 17th loan with MFP. She is a very reliable member with regard to her previous payments, so she expects to continue in this way. With the 2,000 soles she is applying for, she will buy bags of natural and other fertilizers in order to improve her plants and obtain a good yield from her crops.
