A loan of $675 helped to buy chickens, chicken feed and food supplies.

Nuvia Monserrate's story

The Amigas Por Siempre communal bank meets every 15 days in Ayacucho parish, in Santa Ana canton. The area is known for its lush vegetation, but above all for its beautiful fresh water spas, which are much frequented by locals and by tourists from other cities.

Sra. Nuvia is 40, married and has 5 children, two adults and three minors who are in secondary school. Her husband works abroad.

She is a housewife who has had to work very hard to help her family get ahead. She raises and sells animals for which she has a small poultry farm at her house. She takes in up to 200 chickens every season for three months and then sells them to merchants who come to her home or she delivers them to stores in the region. Besides this, she has a nighttime business selling fast food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, juices and fruit smoothies. She works every day. Her children help her in the fast food business. She has had these businesses for 8 years and is doing well.

She will use this loan to buy chickens, chicken feed and supplies to prepare her fast food. She is founder of the communal bank and she likes it because of the benefits she receives from it.

Her dream is to continue getting ahead, in her life and in her businesses.
