A loan of $700 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Imani Shg Group's story

Violet is the facilitator of the Imani SHG group. Violet and her group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Violet and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

Violet takes care of 12 children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertiliser and hybrid seeds to ensure food security for her family and give them education. In the recent 2011 season, Violet had a very good maize yield harvesting 7 bags on half an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Violet was only able to harvest 3 bags of maize on half an acre of land.

With income from maize sales, Violet will educate her children and invest in business.

In 2012, the members of Imani SHG group will each plant maize plots between one half and one acre of land.

In the photograph above, Violet is pictured with her group members.
