Lizbeth Mireille's story

Lizbeth is a divorced woman and a mother of three children, ages 16, 14 and 11. The four of them live in the Río Verde parish in the Santo Domingo canton. Santo Domingo is a canton and city in the new Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas province, which used to be a rural parish of Quito. Santo Domingo is between the coast and the mountain range in Ecuador, a connecting point between Quito, Guayquil, Portoviejo and other important cities. It is situated on the outer edges of the western mountains and in the lower coastal plain at 1000 meters above sea level. This area has the highest rainfall in the country. There is a great abundance of water as there are 5 important river basins and micro basins here. It is a rainy, subtropical zone and the average temperature is 22 °C.

Lizbeth has a business making clothing. In the morning, she is a teacher at the local school and then she works in her sewing shop. It has been difficult being both mother and father to her children as she provides the only source of income to cover the household expenses and because of this, she has two jobs. Since it is the of the start of the school year, she wants to purchase fabric to make uniforms and take advantage of the large number of customers during this season. This way she will be able to increase her income so her children will be able to continue studying.

Lizbeth's dream as a mother is to see her children achieve success professionally as well as in their personal lives.
