A loan of $1,600 helped a member to buy sugar, coffee, and soaps.

Sopp Madina Toure Group's story

Sopp Madina Toure Group was established six months ago by ten women who, for the most part, live in the village. Their main business is buying and selling.

Mrs. Penda is in charge of the group. She's the one in the inset at the bottom of the picture. She's 62 years old, a widow and takes care of her two children.

Her business consists in retailing, and she also raises sheep and goats. She knows all the ins and outs of her business, since she's been in it for several years.

With her loan, she will buy products such as sugar, coffee and soaps, as well as small animals (sheep, goats). Her goal is to support her children in their various endeavors, while at the same time providing for herself.

In this group: Penda, Mane, Coumba, Ngone, Aida, Mbene, Khady, Awa, Aicha, Dial*, Ndeye*
