Verónica Lucia's story

Veronica is a 30-year old woman and the mother of two children, aged 1 and 6. She lives together with her children and her husband in the Parrish of "Rio Verde" in the canton of "Santo Domingo". Santo Domingo is the fourth-largest city in Ecuador after Guayaquil, Quito, and Cuenca. The population continues to grow rapidly with its rich commercial activities and the largest cattle market in the country. The province has an area of 3,857 km², or 352,300 ha, and it has an altitude of 625 meters above sea level. The average temperature is about 25.5°C and sometimes it reaches 38 °C. The entire province of "Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas" forms the mountainous territory of the coast of the western range. Historically it is known as the Yumbo Province and the capital of the hummingbirds. It is located in the wet tropics of Latin America. It is a province considered to be new, having been established in 2007.

Veronica has a truck which is loaded with fruits and vegetables. This is how she sells her products along the streets of the city and she also distributes to stores and produce markets. She has been working together with her husband for 8 years, having learned the business from her family. She wants to invest in the purchase of vegetables and for this reason she approached Fundacion Alternativa (Kiva Field Partner) for a loan. This is how she plans on improving her income and saving enough money to have their truck fixed to continue their sales.

She dreams of becoming a large distributor of fruits and to provide her children with all that they need.
