A loan of $750 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Jirani Kwa Jirani Group's story

Greetings from Western Kenya, and the women of the Jirani kwa Jirani group! Eddah is the facilitator of the Jirani kwa Jirani group, and she and her co-group members are currently enrolling in the 2012 One Acre Fund program.

Eddah takes care of six children at home. She joined One Acre Fund to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and in order to ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Eddah had a really impressive harvest of 24 bags on 1.5 acres of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Eddah was only able to harvest 4 bags of maize on 1.5 acres of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Eddah and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Eddah will educate her children and invest in livestock.

In 2012, the members of Jirani kwa Jirani group will each plant between ½ and 1.5 acres of maize.
