A loan of $650 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Solana Group's story

Jackline is the facilitator of the Solana group. Jackline and her group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Jackline and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

Jackline takes care of seven children at home with her husband. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds to harvest more maize from her farm. In the recent 2011 season, Jackline had a very good maize yield, harvesting seven bags on ½ an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Jackline was only able to harvest four bags of maize on ½ acres of land

With income from maize sales, Jackline will educate her children and invest in raising livestock.

In 2012, the members of Solana group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1.5 acre of maize.

In the photograph above, Jackline is pictured with her group members and a few children of her co-group members.
